President's Message

MEDEC's 2008 agenda

Vision

Advancing health outcomes for Canadians by accelerating access to medical technologies

Mission

As the voice of Canada's medical technology companies, MEDEC is committed to:

  • Effective advocacy
  • Targeted education
  • Relevant and timely information

In delivering this mission, MEDEC will provide value by representing the key interests of its members and by being a trusted resource to influential stakeholders.

Strategic Imperatives

Through advocacy, education and information, MEDEC will over the next three years:

  • Drive favourable progress on health policy
  • Drive favourable progress on regulatory policy
  • Advance comprehensive, efficient and consistent reimbursement and funding policies
  • Provide and enhance valued services for members

I am pleased to report MEDEC’s effectiveness as a strong voice for industry, and an advocate for patient access to medical device technologies in Canada, is being recognized by our international partners.

In a recent study, U.S. based AdvaMed looked at options to add value in international markets as part of a global outreach strategy.  I was very proud of our association, when Ralph Ives, Executive Vice President, Global Strategy and Analysis at AdvaMed, said MEDEC is doing “such a great job that there is little value AdvaMed could add.”  This is a testament to the great work our committees, Board Members and staff have been doing to position MEDEC as the voice of our industry.

For our part, we are proud to work closely with AdvaMed to help shape North American and international regulatory, policy and trade issues.

I am also happy to announce a new Imaging Sector Committee, focused on regulatory quality, funding and innovation, will be launched early this year.  Markham-based Philips Healthcare, a Canadian leader in medical imaging and patient monitoring systems, and one of our newest members will contribute to the success of this committee.
