Neil Fraser of Medtronic Canada Appointed as Chair of the

MEDEC Board of Directors

Seven new board members also appointed

MEDEC, the national association representing Canada’s medical technology companies, is pleased to welcome Neil Fraser as Chair of the MEDEC Board of Directors. He is joined by seven new Board members: Rollie Cameron (Johnson & Johnson Medical Products), Mat Dinneen (Bard), François Drolet (Roche Diagnostics), Michela Juran (Welch Allyn), YJ Oh (Edwards Lifesciences), Cameron Piron (Synaptive Medical) and Stephen Thompson (Baxter).

Mr. Fraser is the President of Medtronic Canada and Regional Vice-President - Canada, Medtronic plc. He joined Medtronic Canada in 1984 and, following numerous commercial positions, was promoted to President in 2004. In 2014, he was a member of the federal Advisory Panel on Healthcare Innovation and the Ontario Health Innovation Council. He is a frequent speaker on the topics of value-based procurement, outcomes- based healthcare, and the medical device sector’s role in improving clinical outcomes, economic value, and access to quality healthcare.

Mr. Fraser has been involved in MEDEC for many years, initially serving on the Board from 2005-2010 and presently serving on the board since 2012. In addition to his involvement in MEDEC, he is also a Board Member of Baycrest Health Sciences, a member of the Rotman School of Management’s Healthcare and Life Sciences Advisory Board and Founding Member and Co-Chair of the Centre for the Advancement of Health Innovations (CAHI) at the Conference Board of Canada.

“I’m very honoured to take on this role, particularly at a time when the medical technology industry is increasingly being recognized for the important contributions that it can make in improving patient outcomes and contributing to the sustainability of our healthcare system,” said Mr. Fraser. “MEDEC has made significant strides in becoming a valued partner to federal and provincial governments, as well the broader healthcare community, and I am looking forward to building upon those partnerships on behalf of our industry while in this role.”

“Neil’s immense understanding of the Canadian healthcare environment, its challenges and the tremendous opportunities presented by the medical technology industry will be invaluable to MEDEC,” said Brian Lewis, President and CEO of MEDEC. “His recognition across the country as a thought leader will contribute greatly to our association’s ability to enhance our advocacy efforts towards our mission of a responsive, safe and sustainable healthcare system that is enabled by the use of medical technology.”

“We truly welcome the expertise, experience and commitment that Neil and all of the new and reappointed members of our board of directors will bring to our association,” added Mr. Lewis.

Mr. Fraser’s appointment follows two years of exceptional leadership by Paul Bradley of Johnson & Johnson Medical Products. “We’re very grateful for everything Paul has done for MEDEC,” said Mr. Lewis. ”His contributions have led MEDEC to become a more responsive and accountable association that can better serve our members, while enhancing our contributions to improving Canadian healthcare.”
