Dr. Brian Day speaks to Canada's medical deviced technology companies

Dr. Brian Day, President of the Canadian Medical Association, spoke to members of MEDEC – Canada’s medical device technology companies - at MEDEC MedTech 2008: MEDEC’s AGM, Conference and President’s Awards Presentation. The theme of this year’s event at the Toronto Congress Centre was “Accelerating Access” to medical device technologies in Canada.

Dedication to the research, development and invention of The Radio Frequency Perforation System has earned Dr. Leland (Lee) N. Benson the prestigious 2004 MEDEC Award for Medical Achievement. The award was presented today at a special award ceremony at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. MEDEC - Canada's Medical Device Technology Companies - established the award in 1979 to recognize Canadian scientists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of medicine and whose work is acknowledged in Canada and internationally.

MEDEC - Canada's Medical Device Technology Companies - today launches an industry Code of Conduct that sets the bar for the medical device industry in Canada. The new Code of Conduct guides industry companies and builds the standard for ethical business practices in relationships with healthcare professionals. The MEDEC Code of Conduct provides guiding principles to promote socially responsible industry conduct and productive and principled business practices and interactions. 
WIDESPREAD HEALTH PRACTISE A CAUSE FOR CONCERN

MEDEC released a report today entitled "Cause for Concern: The Reuse of Single Use Medical Devices" which calls to light the practise of reusing single use medical devices (SUMeDs). This practise poses potentially serious and life-threatening risks to patients in Canada by exposing them to infectious diseases and possibly malfunctioning devices.
