Assurer de meilleurs soins de santé grâce à des technologies innovatrices

The Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology tabled a report last Tuesday (Mar. 27) on its review of the 2004 health accord, appealing to the federal government to get more involved in health reform. Many of the 46 recommendations in the report carve out a bigger role for Ottawa in health care at a time when the government is taking a more hands-off approach and asking the provinces and territories to lead the reform agenda. The Committee was commissioned by Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq in January 2011 to conduct the second statutory review of the health accord, and it held 13 hearings between March and December that year. One of the report’s recommendations is the creation of a Health Innovation Fund to support “exciting” reforms on the front lines of health care. The report is available here.
