Point-of-care testing (POCT) utilization has steadily increased since its inception 40 years ago. In 2016, POCT is on the precipice of explosive expansion to address the need for localized, timely testing at lower costs. This symposium will provide a forum for a healthy debate on the necessity for regulatory and quality frameworks, the role of economics in future funding, how to optimize delivery in traditional and non-traditional settings, and the actual value of POCT to patients, regulators and care givers.
