The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) will be setting up a working group to study the professional relationship physicians have with the health system. A resolution to this effect was passed by 85 per cent of delegates in Tuesday’s session of the association’s annual meeting. The resolution was proposed by the Quebec Medical Association, and in a news release the QMA said that one “significant obstacle” to health reform is that most physicians are self-employed professionals within the system. The release said “we are no longer able to achieve progress in the health care system because of the resistance to adoption of progressive measures on the part of some physicians who are fearful of losing their autonomy.” Click here for more informaiton.
